Louis, or anyone in the know about the subject rewinds
can you read my last post on the link below, and
tell me what the “guts” are suppose to look like,
as far as the number of the dogs, how the rope was
attached, etc. Thanks.https://www.aomci.org/forums/topic/1941-mercury-kb3/page/3/#post-272107

January 31, 2023 at 5:48 am #272129I posted to that link already, with my thoughts on why the recoil pawls hit. That’s normal, when the recoil is off the motor. See my post on the other thread, for how to check it, off the motor.
Long live American manufacturing!
February 1, 2023 at 12:29 pm #272184KE-3 MERCURY Any tips on removing the water pump cover plate? The manual says pry up on the hub through the shear pin hole . I’m a bit afraid of damaging it in the process. Anyone done this ? Just thought I’d ask before going ahead. Yes I have removed the circlip. Nice little motor. Ready to go, but i just need to check this.
Also is there a source for these old impellers?
Thanks

DaveI’ve worked on very few Mercs. I’d start a new thread with your request,
and photos if possible, to get the best response.Prepare to be boarded!
February 1, 2023 at 6:27 pm #272197Aligne the drive pin with the notch and push the pin out thru the notch. Method 1) use two punches of appropriated diameter (one on each side to pry up on holes in drive hub) Method 2) Polish corrosion off exposed portion of prop shaft, lubeĀ and press it out of water pump housing. The SLAM the end of housing on wood surface. The INERTIA of the heavy brass cover disc will pop free of the housing. ( I use the end of a 2 x 4 standing on concrete floor to get a good solid wood surface)
Take your pick I have used them both. Pryin does not work if cover is really stuck. SLAM works on the toughies.
Skunk Juice and Heat if your preference is the flam wrench.
Seal is 4923 and is always a bear to get old seal out. Which explains why the seal is always bad.
