Does anyone know what I should set the point gap to on a 1942 evinrude sportsman?
.02 would do just fine I would think.

Business cards should be just about the right thickness give or take.

the gap value itself is not as important as openning at the proper moment typically TDC see video on timing on the conventional mags

Actually not TDC but before… you need time for the mixture to ignite…so spark must occur before top dead center.
agreed yet on oldies .02 on the high point of the cam likely allows a few deg. before tdc. Realy on the ones I adjusted in years past using the video method .. performance has not been impaired much .. that I could tell.
