I fired this motor up for the first time after going through
the carb, ignition, and lower unit.
The carb was thoroughly cleaned of course, and I did the
“blow test” with the carb inverted, and the float needle seemed
      to be seating fine.

I was elated that it started and ran, but the smile was soon
wiped off my face when I noticed fuel squirting six inches
out the carb overflow hole / vent hole? in the top, starboard
      side of the carb.
You can briefly see the gas squirting out in the video.

I’ll take the carb back off of course, but if I find nothing wrong
with the float needle seating, what else could it be?

Being that it’s Evinrude’s first year for a remote gas tank and all,
could there be any issues with the motor over pressurizing the
      fuel tank?
The flapper valve in the engine’s front cover was inspected,
and appeared to be in good shape.
      Thoughts? Thanks!
P.S.- This “start” in the video was actually my second one.
I started it moments before, and it did the same thing.
I was hoping it would cure itself, but alas, no.

I don’t think the crankcase pressure pulses can possibly over pressurize the tank.  Tillotson did make a number of different float needle & seats.  Maybe (???) it has the wrong one installed.  Too big a seat diameter could result in pressure forcing it open.

I’m somewhat surprised that it is running with the carb overflowing like that.

Thanks for your thoughts Frank. I’m hoping it’s just something simple with the carb.
The first time I did run it a bit longer, and it did start loading up before I unplugged the tank.
Hopefully I can figure it out tomorrow. At least it has potential!

Buc, did your needle valve have a rubber tip?   My was a brass tip and I had a similar problem.  The first couple times I ran mine I had to use the fuel shut off (on/off) to get back to the dock.  I got a new needle and it was rubber tipped.  I have not ran the motor since I put it in.   If I remember right the needle lays horizontally in that carb.  That is probably not helping the situation.

Dale, mine did not have a rubber tip, but not brass either ……..and yes, it does lay horizontal.
Hopefully I can figure it out tomorrow!

Maybe something in the carb bowl hanging up the float? oversized or bulged gasket?? bent float arm?

                Just guesses.

Joe, The needle tip wasn’t in the best of shape, and hard to tell what the seat was like.
I found four used needle / seat sets in my stash, but all the wrong thread on the seats,
and wrong needles as well, so I used some valve grinding compound and spun the
needle with my drill, lol. A little crude, but it solved the problem.
Also, the float tang was out of whack. The “carb” assembly line inspector
                  should be docked!
I was befuddled for a while trying to do a “blow test” with the carb inverted, testing
if the needle was seating, until I realized the glass fuel bowl needs to be in place!
Will try to order a new needle and seat.

While I had no more gas blowing out the carb vent while running it in the barrel,
every once in a while it was getting into some “lean sneezing” fits.
I really can’t tune that big of a motor in my test barrel.
After I pulled the motor out of the barrel, for some reason I thought to check the
six cylinder to crankcase nuts……. all were loose……. strange, as I never had
                  the cylinder off.
Not sure if that could be my “lean sneeze” problem or not.
Hope to do a lake test this week and see what happens.

There’s a barrel test video in “Current Projects”

Bucc, and it’s a beautiful looking motor, like all of your work.  I love the color.

                    Get er’ done !
