Trying to assemble the final parts on the Firestone, and have a few questions……

      Vertical mount holes for what?
      http://www.grayhitandmiss.com/Outboards/dscn4923.jpg
I have no parts left to go in these holes / mounts. Are they used?
The magneto seems to have no stop, that is, if the handle is advanced too
far, the carb throttle cam will drop off the mag cam. What am I missing?

      Incorrect Shift handle
      http://www.grayhitandmiss.com/Outboards/dscn4925.jpg
I appear to have a homemade shift handle. Would the original
be a rod with a round or tapered knob?

      Incorrect Fuel shut-off
      http://www.grayhitandmiss.com/Outboards/dscn4927.jpg
Attn. Wannabe Outboard Guy…… my fuel shut off is "for sure" wrong!

Thanks in advance for your thoughts, Buccaneer

The vertical holes are to support a throttle cable from a twist throttle. Your engine may have an intake manifold, with this feature, from a newer engine that had a twist throttle.

I think that the travel of your magneto control lever will be limited by the lower cowls, when they are mounted.

Someone did a nice job of fabricating a shift handle. The correct one is round rod stock with a round black knob.

The 1950 motors had a mag advance limiter. The vertical holes are most likely for that. They quickly gave up on the limiter.
Your shutoff may be correct but with the wrong knob. I have a 1951 7.5 Firestone parts diagram and will try to post it here in a day or so,\.

I just sent the pics again Tom. I have you covered on the fuel shutoff and the shifter as well. For some reason it kept kicking my Emails with the pictures back to me this morning. Me and computers….not a good match.

Jnjvan, I’m not sure what to think about the mounting holes being for a twist throttle,
but pretty sure mine never had said device. I never thought about the cowls limiting
the mag lever, but that’s likely.
Thanks again Wannabe for the photos!!!
Thanks all for the replies, Buccaneer

On my 5-hp Scott, those holes are occupied by the limiting pin, attached to the missing end of the shift linkage. Keeps ya from starting the motor wide open when in gear.

Retiredoz, Thanks. I did see a Scott shift lever with eyelet on the port side of the motor, and was wondering what hooked up to it. Perhaps the limiting pin you mention. Not sure if the Firestone used the same apparatus or not.
                  Thanks!

Buc, on both my 10 A 73’s those vertical holes are empty.

Wannabe, the vertical holes sound like a "Scott only" application.
Glad there’s nothing to go in them……. I’m running out of parts!
                      Thanks, Bucc
