I just bought a new project.. And I’m not quite sure what it is! The engine cover clearly says "evinrude yachtwin" and it is a 3 hp model. The seller, who knew nothing about the engine, said he believed it was an early 60’s model but the numberplate (model number 3012) says it is a 1952-1954-made 3hp.. What to believe? Never seen a 50’s yachtwin before so now I’m doubting all my knowledge 😆

I don’t think the Yachtwin came out until ’64 or so when the right angle drive Johnson JH arrived. Over the years, parts get switched around and mismatched. At the moment I’m working on a ’57 JW but it has an early 50’s Lightwin ID tag on it.

I see, I figured so. But it is possible that it is model number 3612, with the 6’s tail worn off, which would make it a ’66
