I’m pretty sure the recoil is from 1956 Johnson RD18 30 HP.
The reason I say that is- that the recoil does not have a slot for a compression relief system.
My question is – Did a 1956 Johnson RD18 30 HP Recoil come with a rubber hose protecting the rope?
The pictures I posted are from a 1956 Johnson RD18 30 HP parts list.

I don’t know if the ’56 had a long snout on the rope, or not. 1957 did, according to my parts book. Look closely and you will see that end of the snout jams into the slot between the sheave and housing. Purpose is to keep the sheave from vibrating and rattling.

My RD-18 has the short snub nose on the handle, part #304361 as shown in the parts diagram. No long rubber extension into the housing.

I think I will be taking the rubber extension off.The snot on the rubber extension sometimes goes past the hole.
