I tore the water pump apart on Bailer #2 this morning.
The two outboards were purchased in different years,
and different States, but they both had the same
      Lord J-7598 replacement impellers.
Evidently, they were about the only choice even
      years ago.

Also interesting is that the impeller wouldn’t touch the
liner on the slack side of rotation. I realize the impeller
is old and has taken “set”, but it makes me think there
wasn’t a whole lot of “vane tension” on the liners
using the Lord impellers. I wonder if the original Scott
impellers were better? They certainly designed different
      than the Lord replacement impellers.

I’m awaiting a Sierra impeller that’s has a slightly larger
OD than the Honda one, and see if I can get if to work
without adding a band in the liner to reduce the cavity diameter.
      Time will tell.

I can’t find the details on the impeller I used, but between the two that
I fixed up, I believe I used NOS impellers on one, and used a Honda impeller
on the other cooling water pump, and blanked off the bailer pump.
Search on site to see if you can figure out what Honda impeller, and
if all else fails, Facebook’s Scott Atwater site should have the info.

The water tube from the lower unit pickup has to be air tight.  Even with a new impeller it won’t draw water up to the pump.  I had to make new rubber tube seals before I got mine to pump.   The original design wasn’t tight enough to seal unless it was new, the original wouldn’t work.  I had it apart several times before I figured it out.  Ran the motor afterward  with excellent results.  As you stated you don’t need the bailer pump impeller, I sealed up the water passages in the bailer pump housing.  It was trial and error but I didn’t give up on it. Left it numerous times but finally succeeded.
