There is some kind of restrictor in the water pump discharge
line. The 5/16″ tube is reduce to about a 1/8″ hole. I assume
it’s factory, as the line appears to be neatly crimped to hold
      the restrictor in place.

I don’t remember running across one of these before.
Is it suppose to be there?
Hope so, as I went ahead and put it all back together!

      Thanks

Apparently they were meant for use in cold water to help the non thermostat motors get up to temperature. Motors in Florida didn’t need them but up here near the pole, they were more common. It can be easily removed by drilling it out and I do have a NOS loose one here somewhere so I should try and find it to get the part number.

        Here’s one I found on a ’55 CD.

Thanks Mumbles…….. that’s good to know that it wasn’t someone’s scientific experiment!
I’ll be chopping ice in the test barrel soon anyway, so glad I left the restrictor in!

Hm-m-m-m, I didn’t know they were a regional thing. I’ve seen a number of them on 5.5 & 7.5 motors also. Even here in Florida.
