Good evening, folks!
I am trying to remove the pull cord housing to get at my flywheel.
It’s very obvious how to get the other corners off – but this one has me stumped. I don’t see it in exploded parts diagrams (see photo).
It’s the metal ring at the rear of the motor.
It passes through the top starter housing and into the motor.
What is this and how do I remove it? I’ve tried lightly pulling and turning it – but I don’t want to break it.
cheers

July 10, 2026 at 10:03 pm #324213Thanks for the reply. So far every bolt and screw has been a smooth removal. This one appears to be my first fight.
I have sprayed a little seafoam deep creep on it and will fight with again tomorrow.
Thanks!

July 12, 2026 at 2:28 pm #324320That looks like something that someone added to use as a lifting eye, don’t think it came this way from the factory. You will need to get a long pry bar placed into the eye and loosen it that way.

My crusty old RD-18 had the exact same lifting ring on it when I found it. I thought it was something that someone stuck on there but maybe it was a factory piece – strange that 2 motors had the same exact piece.
