Such a shame some knit whit sprayed over the original finish…
November 5, 2020 at 6:30 pm #220196In Ontario, all outboards are in fresh water!
I’m so jealous.
Out here on the West Coast, the minimum tools needed to help bring a salt experienced motor back to life will be a set of torches, a big hammer, an impact wrench or two, a well stocked shop fridge, and some Ativan to help out for those especially tough ones! And I don’t even drink!
November 6, 2020 at 8:31 am #220222What did the inside of the powerhead look like if under the flywheel looked like that!
November 6, 2020 at 1:57 pm #220237I have never seen any thing like this. I have picked up some old outboard sitting out side the snow in winter time behind the barn for a couple years and I did not see this worst condition. This is the worst one!

Long live American manufacturing!
November 11, 2020 at 2:05 pm #220614Hello,
Just got it picked up yesterday. It is 1961 model. It has a weak spark on both cylinders so the magneto ignition needs to look at. Compression test shows 92/91 psi on the dry cylinder. Hopefully the compression will raise when the cylinder got wet.
Frankf, could you comment on the “18 hp semi-weedless prop looks just like a 10 hp, until you examine it closer.” I attached the pictures, Is the prop original for 18 hp?-

November 11, 2020 at 5:50 pm #220636You probably know this. The propeller nut is not correct. It would have been a pointed, black plastic part with a metal threaded insert. The current available part is #0390716. Original, discontinued part was #0305469.
DaveNovember 12, 2020 at 12:27 pm #220686This propeller nut looks like home made from brass hex bar! should it serve the purpose to retain the propeller? The brand new cost $24 -$32 from E-bay.
Do you see any potential problem if I keep it instead using OEM part?November 12, 2020 at 3:37 pm #220694Looks funky, but will work if you don’t care about originality.
