Picked up a 1961 Evinrude 75 with the Unicharger battery ignition. Any musings or tips? Also need a wiring diagram if someone has one.

Sure hope you got the junction box. That stuff is worth as much as the whole rest of the motor. I don’t have the 1961, but here is 1962-3, mostly the same except electric shift was added.

Junction box and the rest (I think) of the harness, best I can tell until I check further. Was in a hurry and stuffed it in the garage. Looks like I have to get a throttle/ shift and cables, tho. Thanks Frank.

This motor will be replacing a 1965 75hp Selectric with a roached (!!!!!!) gearcase. Same motor except the gearcase? Parts is parts.

Much is the same. But a lot of changes also. 1965 had all the electricals under the hood, no junction box. The hot-water choke was gone also (good riddance).

This one is for 1960 . . . unfortunately not the uncharged – which put out over three times what the generator did

Can the hot water choke be disabled or removed and the choke used manually? I’m already back there squeezing the primer bulb. Possibly a carb swap, running the ’65 carb and its 50:1 fixed jets?

“Everybody” manually choked them. No modifications required. Just open the door and do it.

Got to get it off the floor and upright so I can get a better look at it. Thanks Frank and Garry.
