Recently, I replaced the water pump impeller on my 1962 Mercury 9.8 HP Outboard Motor and now I still haven’t been able to get the lower unit re-installed. But I have another problem. While trying to re-install the lower unit, I accidently disconnected the 18 inch copper water line that goes up to the engine for cooling. It sits next to the lower unit drive shaft and goes through a plate at the bottom of the engine. Is there a diagram or instructions somewhere that shows how to reconnect the copper tube to the engine?

      Thank you,
      Ron in Arizona

It should go easy like Dave said. If not, there is a plastic grommet the tube fits into on the bottom of the power head. If your motor overheated this grommet could have melted. Been there. I pulled the power head, replaced the grommet, and installed the tube with the lower unit. Just relaying some info I read here. Good Luck.
