      Good morning,
      I purchased a 1968 star craft Polaris 16 boat with 1968 Mercury 500 50 hp. I am looking for info on either of these items. I am looking at replacing the impeller/water pump first and then slowly work thru the rest of the boat. Any help or resources are greatly appreciated

        not much to say…

        fix any the leaks on the boat 🙂

        as to the engine the 50hp 4 cyl is (was) a great motor….. smooth troller but it likes fuel (5g/h wot +oil)

        I hope you tested compression….

        change the impeller, remove & clean the carbs inspect ALL the wiring and hoses for deterioration

        run a decarb …change the plugs , etc…

              A mercury dealer should have the parts….. impeller ………. the rest you can mostly clean up if wiring is ok

                Check all the wiring for dry rot. Mercs of that era are noted for cracked rotted wiring – from the control harness all the way through the motor.
