The powerhead is finished and turns freely. Compression is good 6′ o’clock at TDC. and I have spark at 5 o’clock. I installed the poppet valve and would like to see it ‘pop’. Any reason why it should’nt?

On my Elto Lightweight you pull the flywheel backwards to start, Then it bounces off compression and runs clockwise. When I pull flywheel flywheel backwards the spark is about 8 o’clock.

If you forget fuel, it won’t do anything…. just sayin’

Put timer lever at 5 o’clock and pull it through compression, don’t bounce against.

          Hope this helps.

If you just want to test fire the motor
put the carb on upside down. Fill it
with fuel and pull the fuel into the
motor buy pulling it over. Then keep
pulling it over and after a few attempts
            you should get some result.

I mounted the powerhead on the test tank for more leverage. Then sqirted some fuel into the exhaust port and pulled it through a few times. It popped a couple times and then ran for five seconds. It sounded good and smooth. Now I’ll torque all the bolts and start to reassemble the drive shaft, lower unit, and tiller. I may have some issues with the tiller/reverse mechanism as the shaft looks different. Tubs, I’ll turn the poppet valve upside down and try it again after I torque. Good idea.

Now I’m not very knowledgeable on these.
I’ve only had a couple and there is so much
to know but from the ones I have had all
the reversing mechanism parts seem to be the
same except for the part circled. If you want
to disassemble yours press the pin out. If
you try to just knock it out often they will
expand before they are all the way out and
stop. Your 1922 should have the one with the
green paint on it in my photo.

Tubs; The parts from mine in photo top. Looks to be welded and does not slide. Bottom photo are of parts I bought. That one slides.
The brass part with screws in your photo I must have missplaced. It’s been apart for a year.

The bottom one in your pictures is the
same as the 1922 I had. I believe its the
only part that is different and all the other
parts will interchange. That other part
in the lower picture is new to me. In 1922
they reversed the rotation of the prop so
yours should look like this one. Locking up
the reversing mechanism seem to be
pretty common however I found one
                    motor where they accomplished this
by just installing a couple screws.

I could use some help on reassembly. I’m using the parts in the bottom photo. Where should the tab on the driveshaft tube fit into the reverse mechanism? Do I need shims in the two piece brass clamp?

Doesn’t matter as it rotates in there.
I’ve never had the 2 piece bottom so
can advise you there. Parts manual
                        doesn’t show any shims.
