After the game last night I probed around with my ohmeter and found another bare wire left of the arrow. This one showed 4000 ohms.
Now, if I can very carefully melt off some of the tar I could drop a bead of solder on the wires. Then check resistance between the plug wire and ground. Any suggestions on what to use to melt the tar?

If you just want to clean that wire off
take some carburetor cleaner on a
rag and wipe the tar off.
It doesn’t take a lot to melt the tar.
Heat gun or hair drier will work.
Hair drier might be best (as long as
          the female family members aren’t
at home). Either way you want to
go slowly and not over heat it.
Start with the low setting if they
          have one.

Tubs, I’m looking at two pieces of steel 16 gauge wire. If I simply solder these I’ll have continuity to the spark plug wire end. Should I be looking for more strands of wire or is this all there is? I don’t want to go digging around in this 95 year old NLA coil if all I need to do is clean and solder these two. Thanks, Slim

I haven’t opened up one of them yet.
On my "things to do this winter" list.

I thought about it and it does not take much of a wire to carry a high voltage spark. I soldered them up and melted some tar over them. I now have a good ohm reading from the spark plug wire to ground. Sorry if I sounded a little gun shy but I ruined a good coil once. My next post will be a video….I hope. lol. Slim.
