I’m in the reassembly stage of my 27 Johnson P35.
One of the cylinders had the intake baffles intact the other cylinder baffles were missing. They got loose, broke up and got “consumed” in the crankcase. The inside of the crank case had significant scaring and debris from chewing up the baffles.

I know they are there for flame arrestors but I’ve seen many of these come apart and trash a motor.
I am inclined to leave them out but there is an intake deflector that holds them in that has no other means of support except the baffles.
I could use set screws to hold the deflectors in place.
I’ve included a picture of the baffles and deflector.
The baffles and deflector on the left are from the P35. The baffle on the right is from a P30.
Suggestions and opinions would be appreciated.

I had the same issue with my P35.I removed baffles and deflectors and reassembled without them.Engine runs great without them.

          Thanks for the response.
I was wondering about port timing since it has ported pistons.
Did you make the cylinder gaskets bigger to cover the ends of the intake ports?
