X-Profile Oil-Resistant Buna-N O-RingsAlso known as Quattro Seals and X-rings, these X-profile O-rings have four points of contact for a better seal in dynamic applications than round-profile O-rings. They also require less compression to make a seal, so they offer a longer service life. These O-rings are made of Buna-N, which is resilient and tear resistant. They resist motor oil.
Inch O-rings have a dash number and are sized to the SAE standard AS568.

July 13, 2018 at 9:29 am #79474The OMC number doesn’t help me any until I know where it was supposed to be used….OMC’s use of a quad ring anywhere is not coming to my mind. Help me out here….
Long live American manufacturing!
July 13, 2018 at 11:44 am #79479Yes, that’s it.
Bill, they are used in the Big Twin carbon seal. marineengine thinks they are worth $16.00 each.
July 13, 2018 at 12:27 pm #79480Frank, the first link showing a square o-ring say’s
it’s for "static" installations.
The second, named "Quattro" says for "dynamic"
installations.
Is the Quattro style the one I want????
Thanks.quote FrankR:Yes, that’s it.

July 13, 2018 at 2:20 pm #79485Didn’t notice that. But the quattro (dynamic) one is the one you want. Notice the four sealing edges on it, which the "square" o-ring does not have.
"Static" means nothing moves. Think jar lids.
July 13, 2018 at 2:43 pm #79487Thanks for clarifying that Frank!

ScottScott, will let you know if I do.
Update- I ordered a bag of 25 of the Quattro seals.
https://www.mcmaster.com/#90025k347/=1dopvnj
Will let you know if they actually fit.
Also ordered some o-rings that I’m hoping will work
on the shift rod.Any guesses why OMC started using the square o-rings
in the carbon seals, but only on the bottom of the crankshaft?Prepare to be boarded!
