I recently purchased a 1956-57 Merc Mark-25e without knowing too much about it, I was simply happy it came with the boat. I am bringing this motor for a check over/tuneup this weekend to the only guy in my area that I know of anyways, who still works on these motors.
When I removed half of the hood to vacuum out any rodent leftovers lol I discovered that the cylinder head had what appeared to be a wire & lead tamper proof lock on it plus a Quality Control label. Is this a good thing if nothing appears to be leaking???
