Does anybody know if a ‘59 Scott/McCullock 10 hp, model number 138 (a blue one), has a lower crank seal other than the thick cork round gasket that goes around the drive shaft between the power head and adapter plate? Maybe something like what an omc engine has? I do not have access to a parts diagram and really don’t want to take the case apart just to see. I’ve got the engine to run but there was a lot of unburnt oil gas spewing from that area. I took it apart and that cork gasket was hard and misshapen. I cut a new one and the mess has been mitigated. If it doesn’t call for an actual lower crank case oil seal, how is the crank case pressure/vacuum contained? The said cork gasket seems to only prevent the oil gas mix from spewing into the lower pan.
The engine seems to run just fine with the new cork gasket (as it did with the old one).
Maybe if some one has a parts diagram to share? Thank you for any input. Geer in Gainesville, FL
