Decided to investigate the seal in the prop shaft hub. The face of the hub
was defaced where I could not see any seam of a seal retainer.
No amount of prying with a screwdriver was doing any good.
I chucked the whole gear case cap in the lathe and started
cutting away the portion over the seal. After a while the aluminum retainer
popped loose.
I thought it was a leather seal, but was surprised to see a
rubber seal with a formed lip.
I have not looked for possible replacement seals yet.
Anyone ever find something that works good here?
The seal OD is 1.625
Shaft size .984 (or 25 mm)
