I have rebuilt several of these 6hp carbs over the last few years. Why do they include so many packing washers? The slow speed needle take 2,a fiber one inside and a nylon washer up against the packing nut, shown in the factory service manual.
Is it because this kit is used for several other carb models also?

With the same shape float bowl??

        Jim,

Yes, it fits many models and years.

PS, I got a kick out of the screen shot of your desk top. Looks like mine.

They take more than one packing washer on the needle.

Yeah, I usually use just two of the packing washers behind the plastic washer…Put the extra ones aside, you never know when you might need them…

                Jim,
Use two fiber packing washers under a nylon washer on the carb needle. The kits come with enough packing washers for the RDs and Big Twins which use 3 packing washers per needle.

I have always used the nylon washer right behind the packing nut.It just shows two washers on the needle. I’m sure 3 total will be just fine. Thanks.

Yup, 3 works great. I have several done this way including a few 6hp OMCs.
