Just begun to work on a badly mistreated/maintained JWF-22C 3hp Johnson folder. It’s worth saving since it’s a folder. One of the first things I noticed is that the cylinder head appears (to me at least) to have been installed backwards. Before removing it, the compression checked out at 74 PSI both cylinders (that was with 2 head gaskets installed???). I removed the head and turned it around to be what I think is the correct orientation with the plug holes oriented more to the right of center when viewing from the rear – as seen in the photo. Am I correct that the photo shows the correct orientation? Thanks

That looks right. The easiest way to orient the head to the block is to keep the cast in bump to the top. Same goes for the head gasket.
