November 9, 2025 at 1:08 pm #301340I have a 1956 Johnson 7.5hp outboard that I would like to have inspected. I don’t have a proper workshop and tools, nor do I have the experience to restore this motor. It does run, and was tested in a barrel, but I think that the water pump may be worn. Is there anyone within 100 miles of Romney, WV who can restore this motor? I work on wooden boats, but not motors, but I can repaint the motor and add the proper decals. I will be restoring a 1949 Penn Yan Trailboat this spring, and this motor will be added to the boat, so there is no great hurry to finish the motor. I also have a 1960 Johnson 3hp and I would love to learn how to rebuild this motor. doug@dzaruba.com

In regards to the 7.5 and 3 HP, they are very easy to work on. I am unfortunately on the East Coast, but there is a great following on the West.
Good place to start is by getting some manuals for them! Good luck with your search.
