Hi, I would like a recommendation on best oil and mix ratio for a newly acquired ’57 Johnson outboard, probably not rebuilt.

George, welcome, to elaborate some on that mixture. The motor you have has only bushings for bearings. If you want it to last 16 to 1 will help. I only use TCW3 synthetic oil. The motor smokes at startup but when it get warm it is fine.

Any outboard oil rated TCW III and mixed at 16:1 will keep your motor happy.
