I need some guidance to replace bottom crank seal on a 1956 15 ho Johnson . I replaced one on my 56gale buccaneer and one on my 56 Evinrude 15 but that was about 9 years ago 😂 I don’t want to do any damage replacing seal and I thought I’d ask how you guys do it . BTW I’m happy I’m replacing it you can see for yourself . The seals on those year models are not very good.
Look closely you can see the spring is broken

There might be a special puller for these seals but whenever I have to change lower crank seals, I like to split the cases while the powerhead is off so I can get a looky loo at everything inside at the same time. It’s also a good time to polish the bearing and seal surfaces on the crank if they show any signs of wear or water damage.

Thanks Mumbles. I will replace the seal. I will take a chance and just replace the seal. Those seals on those 56 model 15s and 12 hp buccaneer has the same crappy seals.
