A good video here explaining the rise and fall of Chrysler Marine.

As far as I could tell (though I didn’t watch the vast majority of the middle of the video because I didn’t feel I could trust the information), this video has no source citing at all!* Not even for the statistics. It has AI narration and multiple images of outboards displayed that are not of the brand being discussed at that point in the video, such as at 3:07, when the video is discussing West Bend and then Kissel Waterwitches, an advertisement for some Elgin outboards which were produced by McCullough were shown. At 3:31, a Gale-built motor is being shown while again discussing West Bend motors. Unfortunately, the video is also very inaccurate when it comes to describing the reliability of West Bend outboards. So many people have found West Bend’s outboards to be very reliable. The channel has used AI-generated images in multiple of their videos’ thumbnails as well. Finally, it appears this video was primarily intended for entertainment instead of educational purposes because of the lack of source citing.*
These all reduce this video’s credibility as a source that’s being used to learn something, so it’s worth double checking any facts you learn from it.
I agree it is interesting. I simply don’t think it should be relied on as a source of information.
Edit:
*I just wanted to add that this isn’t always a red flag because a source could be one person describing what they learned from lived experience or something simillar, however in this situation, because of the other factors like AI inclusion, I felt like mentioning this as something to be careful of.

May 22, 2026 at 8:23 pm #319659Gotta love the “old film” effect…..lines and spots appearing throughouy….making it look like an old “on film” production.
It hasn’t taken long for AI to infiltrate Social Media has it? At 7 minutes in….they devote several seconds to this image. No mention of OMC.
