There is no drain plug. The cap behind the propeller has to be removed.

They call #16 a cap in the parts manual, so my “guess” would be, you take it off, (4 screws) and pack the gear case with 105 or corn head grease.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I will repack with grease while I am searching for a water pump impeller.

I realize that your motor is a Clinton and that what I am talking about here applies to an Elgin…..but your Clinton impeller looks pretty similiar so I thought I’d mention it.

A few years back I had an Elgin 5HP that needed an impeller that was pretty much impossible to find.  Brian Wilcox  (a Member who makes impellers)  suggested that I use two Mercury  47-89981 impellers stacked.  I tried it….and it worked!  I had to drill the driveshaft for a second pin.  There are a couple of Mercury impellers similar to this one that differ by the inner diameter.  You could measure your driveshaft to see which one would work.

                  Here’s a couple of pics…..

Or…..you could just buy the correct one …..

Thanks, Every for all the help and info. I have the one from discount marine saved in my favorites on eBay. Will be ordering this one.      It is nice to know that the Mercury impellers would also work.
I also checked the gear case grease by following the manual’s instructions.

                      Thanks, Kent
