How likely is it that a cylinder half from one engine, the crankcase half from another and a crankshaft from a third would make a decent powerhead? The engine is 1957 7 1/2.These are all good parts from 3 free junkers.
Possible but unlikely. The main bearings will probably come out slightly oval shaped, if only by a couple of thousandths. That’s enough to bind it up.
Besides, the two taper pins align the two halves, and chances are slim to none that they will align in mismatched parts.
Didn’t even think about the pins.Tried and pins were off by at least 1/16".On to plan B.
I always wanted to know this- By what process were crankcases (and probably lower units) split? A saw, a "laser", a big hammer?
And what was the procedure, split the case, bolt together, then line bore the crankshaft mains?
I would think bolted together then bored.
