Just wondering here , has anyone ever successfully replaced the points in say a 50’s vintage OMC outboard, with those electronic ignition modules that are sold for lawnmowers and small gas engines?   Do they only work on single cylinder engines or are they available for twin cylinder motors?   20+ years ago I put these in a couple of single cylinder mowers but never in  an outboard. 🤔

Do an internet search for – AOMCI forum electronic ignition. You’ll find several previous discussions about them. Basically what they say is the one that worked is no longer available.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

why change,, the OMC  magneto system works very well when adjusted properly…. with timing lined up using the VOM method.

an occasionnal touch up  on points should keep you going for years
