Hello, could I use a 7.5 head gasket on a 6hp? Elgin, they look close to each other, same size. I can not find a 6hp head gasket. If I can’t, what type gasket paper should I use? I thank any one who  can help. Thank you.

Metal mesh reinforced gasket is very hard to cut.

I have made a couple 3 hp gasket out of a steel mesh reinforced gasket material.

If you have a scanner /printer, place the cylinder head cover on the scanner bed, pack with fabric to exclude light and print it out.

Print out a couple of copys and glue them to a couple pieces of plywood. Cut cylinder holes with a hole saw , or jigsaw. drill bolt hole, cooling holes with appropriate size drill bits.

Sandwich the gasket material by drilling out the bolt holes first. Start at a corner first, then diagonal corner next.

Bolt the sandwich together, and then cut out the cylinder holes . I used a Forstner bit in reverse on the metal reinforced material.

          1. Thank you wedgie for your help. Can I use a 7.5hp head gasket on a 6hp? This is a 1954 elgin. The gaskets are the same size, but some of the water flow holes are bigger on the 7.5hp. The other question is what type of gasket paper is used for these gaskets. There is no tin on these gaskets. Thank you for your help, be safe.
