In your photo with red arrow pointing to set screw, that screw is for tension of timer. The handle would have been attached on the flat where wire is shown to be attached. I think there should be two holes drilled and tapped on that flat for timer handle.

Thanks for solving that mystery. Any idea what make of timer it is?

Did Elto / OMC make their own timers for these power heads?
If I can’t figure out how it “tics” I’ll look for some literature on them.Prepare to be boarded!
October 13, 2020 at 2:18 pm #218465October 13, 2020 at 3:41 pm #218477The mechanism inside might be made by Atwater Kent but it’s nothing like the Rudder twin set up. It’s more of a standard type set of points. Timer can be set to where points will never close. This will of course kill the motor and also prevent battery from running down while motor isn’t running.

Sounds like the timer has a handy “battery saver” option, but suppose most battery boxes were rigged up with
a knife switch?Prepare to be boarded!
October 16, 2020 at 6:18 pm #218703I tore into the 1926 / 1932 Elto Super A /Rudder Twin today.
If this contraption ever ran or powered a boat, it was a long
time ago. Some of the mods to make the Super A power head fit on
the G Rudder Twin lower appear to be
the bottom of the Super A exhaust chamber / muffler to
allow the Rudder Twin lower to mount.
No sure what the Super A water outlets originally looked
like exiting the muffler, but appears some mods were made here.
It appears a plate was welded to the transom mount to adapt
the powerhead to the L.U.
Were the big brass terminal connectors
original to these coils?
Does the military style coil (for twins) work okay for a retrofit
in these coil housings?

October 16, 2020 at 6:26 pm #218709I forgot to mention, that I have a 1930 Elto Senior Speedster with a bad crankshaft…..
wonder if this Super A power head would fit on the Senior’s lower unit???Prepare to be boarded!
October 17, 2020 at 5:26 am #218724The Senior speedster has a much bigger power head than the super A and would doubt they would be compatible.
