Evinrude rowboat motor

Hello,

I have a 1920 rowboat motor and the coil(s) have gone bad.  Has anyone adapted some other coils?  If so what coils and how did you do it?

There is a youtube video by Tubs boathouse that shows installing a bendix type coil.  The lower cost military coil is the same size and shape.

When boosting the coil with a battery the motor would start right up. I don’t have the motor anymore but it may have been the points weren’t opening at the right time. I’ve learned it’s called the E gap. I put one of these Bendix coils in a 1/2 hp. Cub and it also didn’t have a strong enough spark to get the motor to start. After some experimenting I got the motor to run by changing the point gap to .010 .

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
