You guys getting tired of my questions yet?

I have the rewind starter for my Merc Mark 25 pulled apart and almost cleaned up. Now that it is time to assemble it what should I use for grease? The manual says ‘MULTIPURPOSE Lubricant (92-30239). What is that in human speak? White Lithium? Never-seeze? 105?

Those 3 would be my guess but hopefully someone knows what they think would be best.

Good question. Not sure of the best answer. I’ve just been using
a little Lubriplate 105. Some of them old starters just ooze
black gunky grease out or have hard clumps of petrified grease
in there. At least Lubriplate starts out "white"!

        Prepare to be boarded!

I like Lubriplate 105 for these kind of applications. Gun grease has too much viscosity, and can get sticky with time.

              quote Dave Bernard:

What Dave said. Very little is needed.

Thanks guys, used 105 SPARINGLY. Basically that’s what I had around the house, just a thin film worth.

105 is okay. Those recoils can’t take a joke with excess binding of any sort; so I usually clean them very well….even using sand paper on the spring if need be….and assembling with 90 weight gear oil, again, sparingly. Works for me, anyway.

                  Long live American manufacturing!
