Help: Cant pull Lower unit on Johnson QD 10

Hi, I am new at this , trying to pull the lower unit off my Johnson QD 10,  I took off the 7 screws, as pics show, the lower unit comes down about 1 inch but it wont come off.  Can someone tell me what else I have to do, any help appreciated.  Thank you

did you disconnect the shift shaft ??????

I did not as I am just learning.  I will try to google it up, if it is easy and can be explained quickly, let me know.  Thank you

one the side of these old motors is a small plate

 

behind the plate is a clip holding the shift rod upper to the lower section..

 

you must  loosen  the lower bolt enough to slide out the lower shif rod portion

Doesn’t the early QD require removing the rear cover and disconnecting the shift rod there?
