I am helping a friend with a 1953 Evinrude Fleetwin 7.5 HP (Model 7512) with the neutral shift knob on top. It uses a very thin impeller (Part # 276983). Some time back, I seem to recall reading on this board that some one had taken an OMC impeller from a later year motor and used a belt sander to create an acceptable substitute. If any one has done that or knows what impeller was used, I would greatly appreciate the info.

I had this in my notes, so if the 52 and 53 are the same,
        you’re in luck…….

I have used the OMC/BRP 277181 impeller with good success. You must "thin it", though, to make it work. The side profile of the Fleetwin impeller is smaller, so I took the new impeller and thinned it on a belt sander. Flip frequently to take equal amounts off both sides until the profile dimension is the same as the one you removed. Take care to keep the impeller flat on the sander as you don’t want it uneven, either… My ’53 pumped great with its new impeller after this modification!

        Prepare to be boarded!
