My johnson HS-15 float is held by a rectangular clip with a slot that has a firm grip on the needle. best way to remove this without damaging float or needle?

Remove the screw from the bottom of the float chamber. Find a pencil with a nice flat top soft eraser that will fit inside the hole against the bottom of the float needle to hold the float needle steady. Now using a needle nose plier, grasp the center area of the clip and rotate the clip while lifting it up and holding the float needle steady with the pencil eraser to keep the float needle shaft from rotating along with the clip. I have done it this way many times and it works.

the hole was a bit small for a pencil but a 3/16 wooden dowel worked well thanks again!
