I had a lot of trouble trying to get the factory to put a "Best if used by" date on the water pump impeller boxes. They said it depends on temperature, and the number of pollutants they are exposed to. Motors run in a test tank can be exposed to oil from previous motors. Oil formulary varies from different refineries and the time of the year year. It can reduce friction and make them last longer when run dry. Chemicals in the oil can also react with the rubber. Some chemicals harden the impeller, others cause it to soften and swell. They last almost forever if stored in liquid nitrogen. In a hot, polluted Florida warehouse – ten or twelve years. I try to change mine every five years using fresh made ones from our members. . . 😎
