In Memoriam: Dan Gano

Some of you may have bought parts over the years from Dan Gano of Spirit Lake Iowa, a specialist in vintage OMC parts for many years.

Apparently he died just last week, he’d retired from his business a few years ago. I tried to eMail to find who had his parts business now, to inquire about  a 1958 Johnson 35 cowl gasket (seal) and learned of his passing.

About 20 yrs ago while working at a boat business in VT I had sold off their 50 yr collection of OMC parts to him as a group. He was always friendly and very nice to deal with, and also anytime when buying any needed vintage OMC parts. Sincere condolences to Dan’s family and friends.

Dans passing is sad news.I bought many parts over the phone from Dan  and always enjoyed chatting with him.He would often take the time to explain the process of installing the parts I had bought.I would have liked to have met him in person.

Dan, was a one of a kind great guy. He was always helpful with whatever project you would be working on. If you ordered washers , gaskets, screws etc… he always threw in a few extra . If you had a question on a motor he would send you a PDF of the parts breakdown. Questions on a running  problem, he would give advice on how to fix. Real old school customer service. He will be missed.
