Just looking for any info on a Scott Atwater 5 hp outboard model 1-16 with reverse. The reverse feature seems to be unusual. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Not sure if they’re the same as the Firestone’s of that era, but this 5 hp Firestone
had an “unusual” wedge to operate reverse……

“Unusual”, but the dang things worked very well.

Not sure what you are asking but the shift shaft has stepped heights which moves the shift dog thru the shaft. Sometimes oil can get behind the shaft & make a hydraulic lock up & will not shift. Is that what your asking? Happens from sitting & cross flow.
Everything worked well except the driveshaft seal until Frank machined enough room for two seals. Also the shift rod O-ring is not much of a seal too. Use blood pressure cuff tubing above the o ring for a better seal.
