Inherited 1972 Mercury 20 hp Model 12001 Serial3070563

This Mercury 20hp motor has never been used. Mercury Owner’s Registration Card 12001 3070563 75276 11/25/71 P OB

Purchased at T Eaton Co. Ltd. Montreal on November 25th 1971 by my uncle

 

Does this motor have any value as a collectible?

great ob…. collectable yes..for somebody …..price asked ??? but it deserves to roam on a lake and be enjoyed

I am trying to determine the value of this vintage Mercury outboard. Then I will list it on the appropriate forum.

I believe it has more value as a collectible as I realize that a 1972 Mercury that has never been started would require some preparation before being put into use. Thanks

needs an impeller job  squirt of oil in cylinders ..virgins are hard to find now days !

If you plan to sell it, I would leave it alone.  A serious collector may have no intention of starting it, and will certainly know what to do/service if they want to run it regularly.   It’s hard to say just what a time capsule like this might be worth, but it surely does have some value.  You need to find local special interest Merc guys.

To a collector, the value here is it is in original condition, complete, and has never been run. Any attempt to improve it is more likely to diminish interest and the value. Leave it alone.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
