      I am having a problem keeping the rings aligned on the piston when installing in the block. What is the correct procedure? I already broke one ring.
      I have a Merc ring compressor and also a tube type.

          When you say, “I have a Merc ring compressor,” what exactly do you mean? The true Mercury built ring compressors for a 9.8 should be opposed finger-like devices, maybe 8″ long. You would need two to make quick work of a 9.8. You COULD do it with only one; but it’s harder. If you DO have these compressors, keeping the crank straight, square and level as it drops down is key. Also, a generous amount of two-stroke oil. The compressors look like this:

            Another key is well cleaned ring grooves. got pics of your compressors?
