Is anyone using an inventory app they would recommend for keeping track of your motors?
April 18, 2026 at 5:44 pm #315780At one time, I was using an Excel type spreadsheet, but
had to fire the secretary for poor updating. (Me!)Prepare to be boarded!
April 18, 2026 at 10:40 pm #315815I’ve heard of some using an app called “iCollect Everything” that is available from google Play, and I’m sure there are a host of others that are probably available for free, but I stick to old tried and true methods using skills I learned 35 years ago.
Once you learn how to use Excel, its easy to create a database that you can update with new arrivals or departures. I happened to be taking a night school course in Lotus 1-2-3 for work at the same time I started collecting motors (1991-92) so as a class assignment I created a database of the motors in my collection and just kept refining the original file but it still bears some rough resemblance to the file I first created in 1992. Lotus got phased out and Excel superceded it but the last time I checked, I can still open Lotus files with Excel. I’m sure there are lots of apps (I used to call them “programs”) available to track and manage inventory of almost anything one cares to document. The trick is to remember to manually update it because unless you put bar codes on your motors, it takes physical effort to keep things current. I’m diligent enough to keep it up to date because I need to become less dependent on just memory to keep things straight. FWIW I have a record of pretty much every motor I’ve owned with a few exceptions that probably amount to less than a couple dozen. if I owned it and actually worked on it, I’ll have a record of it. I have had a few where they showed up and were instantly kicked down the road, and those are the only ones I don’t document. Hope this helps

The info one can store in the database is crazy, link each motor to pictures…crazy good idea.http://www.richardsoutboardtools.com

The best “Excel-type” programs for cell phones are Microsoft Excel Mobile, Google Sheets, and WPS Office…per Google
