I know that there is another forum thread about Johnson A’s now, but I checked the coil with a multimeter and got NO reading at all. Should I be looking to do a coil swap, or are there replacement coils that are easy to find?  Otherwise I may just try to find a parts motor to rob the coil off of.

With some work you can replace the coil with newer OMC coils. The easiest thing to do is find a replacement from a another A model.Try an ad in the website classifieds or contact either Doug Penn or Jon Koranda, both are in the membership directory.

You can tell by my testing devices, I’m the last guy that should be giving advice on electronics.  But I have learned – to check the secondary, on a 2 spark coil, you test between the 2 spark plug leads. If you’re using a digital meter, it needs to be set on 20 K ohm scale.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

I did that but got no reading at all, so I am looking to replace it.
