After a couple year break I am back to working on an unknown history 1925 Johnson A25. This is my first outboard I have played with. I had replaced the coil, reinstalled the flywheel then had an issue of the magnets rubbing or contacting the flywheel magnets. After pushing it to the side, I decided to look at it again, the magneto base plate is hogged out on top, I can get 0.005-0.006 shim stock slid in and it still wobbles. Safe to assume there should be no play in the plate? If I really cinch it down, it doesn’t flex, but won’t rotate. What is a good solution, find a different baseplate?
Also, what would be a good order of items to go through to see if this thing is worth dealing with? (I do at least have spark).

      Thank You,

      Jason
