A friend asked me what gasket material to use and I addressed that part.

Upon seeing his photos, I am confused as to why TWO metal plates are used as they are identical.

Are there indeed two identical plates needed in this, or just one? He wants to make a new plate using the good one as the pattern. Are two plates required?

Looking at the diagram it would seem that there is just one plate sandwiched between 2 gaskets that come in contact with the housings above and below. Looking at the numbers on ebay confirms that also…301982 and 302183 are gaskets and 302184 is the plate.

Parts list confirms just one plate as well.

Thank you for your time, Steve. Like most old motors, we have no idea what previous owners have done to them.

This guy said that he will put them back the way they came out because the motor worked fine then. He just wants to “renew” these parts. He did a good job making them, too!!

Yeah nice job on those plates! It seems the previous owner used a plate as a gasket!
