David, does your accessory catalog mention these exhaust cutout’s. I have been told by some that you could buy the motors with these installed. Did some motors just come with them? Would like some documentation to know if that was really the case. Are they really a Johnson part, or aftermarket item? Were they sold at the dealership? Would a dealer install them, or were they DIY.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

April 20, 2026 at 1:06 pm #315957The boat I use to run my antiques is also the boat I use to run my classics, a 1958 Crestliner. I have the steering set up for OMC type quick connector. So I make my own steering bars for my V-45/S45 and PO, and a different one for my Speedifour. This allows me to use various motors including my Johnson 1957 35hp and make changes quickly.
The picture is the bar for my V/S/PO. It is designed so it hangs below the carburetor and the OMC connector connects easily. The one for the Evinrude Speedifour is very similar but the difference is where the bar is attached to the motor. The V/S fits in between the mount whereas the Speedifour mounts to the side of the mount. You will notice the round piece is at an angle. This is due to the way the mount is at an angle. When connected, the bar is perfectly in line with the front of the motor.
