I’m looking for guidance, preferably with pictures, on how to set up remote throttle and spark advance for the V-45.  Thanks!

There is nothing made that will accommodate advancing the magneto. You’d have to fabricate something and it would have to be strong enough to overcome the resistance of the mag plate’s clamp and ratchet assembly. Regarding the throttle, you picture the Vacturi “pumper” carb and on the bottom there is the butterfly’s bellcrank that has a hole for a cable stop. I haven’t looked at my SE-50 with that carb in years, but I suspect there is a bowden cable clamp somewhere on the port side of the carb. That carb was designed for cable operation, so all you need is the cable stop, which is a round brass piece with threaded ends for a screw and has a hole through the middle for the cable to pass through. The screw then tightens the cable (wire) and the slot in the bellcrank is what keeps the assembly in place.

Thanks, George, that’s very helpful!  I’ll be using the original Johnson carb until I can find a couple of pieces I need for a Vacturi carb my friend Lincoln is putting together for me.  IMG_4909
Lincoln also runs a V45 and he has found the Vacturi gives significantly improved fuel efficiency.  Have you ever compared the two?

Is this your engine pictured or Lincoln’s? The motor pictured has a VA-50 cylinder on the starboard side and I’ve never seen the top main bearing suction line go to that port on the rotary valve..Typically it goes to the carb’s throat. It provides suction to help pull oil up and through the top main bearing.

I’m still looking for the adapter for the carb.

Yes, that’s my motor.  When we were rebuilding it, I noticed the different casting number on the starboard cylinder.  I know these engines had frequent failings when they first came out so I figured it was rebuilt way back then.  Seems to run well with the change.

I’ll have to look at that suction line and compare it to Lincoln’s.   Thanks for looking for that adapter.  I’m good making progress on the remote connections.

I found the adapter. Sometimes it takes me a while to dig through everything. I also took a picture of the oil suction line on my V-45….see the arrow. Also, I drew an arrow at the bleed hole in the bottom of the rotary valve. Often you’ll see that hole “burp” oil/gas if the engine kicks back. It is designed, in my opinion, to be an escape for excessive buildup in the bottom of the valve. IMG_0327

Arrows indicate the suction line and the bleed opening.
