Wondering if this is supposed to be the โ€œ boss gasket โ€œ seems like the bowl wonโ€™t fit on tight enough with it in there

That’s the one. The bowl will actually stand off the carb a bit when putting it together but tightening the bowl screws evenly will crush it down.

chineese carb kit ?? …with the funny cotter pin ?? carefull with the carb body gasket (orange?) …they hae a reputation of melting away and clogging the carb.

            That’s an OMC/BRP kit.

Thanx mumbles, I was a bit leery about that as I read somewhere about being careful not to go too tight as you could crack the bowl.

How is the rubber O-ring in this kit use in a carburetor? Does it have some other function as well in this outboard?

This question has been asked here and on Facebook multiple times but no one seems to have an answer for it. All I know is I have a bunch of them saved up just in case anyone does figure out what they are for.

My guess is 1953 Johnson QD-14 10 HP. I don’t have a carb on hand to check it but I believe there is a fat o-ring like that in the carb. I know the rest of the kit doesnโ€™t apply to that year (except for maybe a hard fiber gasket and a couple packing), but in the parts manual it shows #72 โ€“ part #302832 that fits in a recess under a retainer. When I searched 302832 it looks like the same fat o-ring in the carb kit. Maybe someone whoโ€™s got a QD-14 carb could verify that.
