What is the black rubber doughnut for in an OMC carb kit 439071?

That kit was used in dozens of OMC motors. It may be a seal in an outboard you have never seen.

It provides a seal between the high speed jet and the main carb body. Won’t work without it.

???Aren’t you thinking about the cork seal shown to the left of the float valve needle in the picture??

I believe this is the high speed nozzle seal.

I know the rubber o-ring is not used in 3 HP to 10 HP motors, so it must be used in higher horsepower models. Isn’t this kit used for up to 40 HP?

I’ve got dozens of those o-rings and don’t know what carbs they are used in.

I only worked on a couple of these over the years so memory’s a little fuzzy, but I think there was a fat o-ring like that in the ’53 Johnson 10 horse carb. I know the kit doesn’t specify that year, but I checked my parts manual for the number (part 72 – 302832) then searched to find a picture of it, and it looks like it could be the same. Maybe someone who’s got a QD-14 could verify.

Grateful I am for all the input, and glad to know I wasn’t alone in my question.
                      Some great observations, thank you.
