    Hello folks.

New member here. I am out in the Georgian Bay Area and came across this gem at the local transfer station. No info on it. The ID plate is unreadable so far. It came with the Johnson metal tank as well. I have no idea what year it is, but I’ll be investigating once I get it up on a motor stand.

It was set aside for the brave to take it home.

I have no idea what it will need, or if it will be worth salvaging vs just buying one that is in working order.

    cheers

well it is a  johnson 35 hp RD class .. .to service it download this free book   print and bind locally  ( i split it in 2  books with spring cord binding for easy flat reading .. contains all you need to bring it back to life ..but do compression test first as a survival test.  post your findings  here !!

these old motors  usually need full rework of electricals ( coils, condensers points , plug wires   no big deal and a very  addictive hobby)    gear case oil  impeller    carbutator clean up   all no big deals   read the manual   visit utubes  ask questions here !

Well, the cowling is painted in 1956 colors but that was a 30hp motor and the decal on yours shows 35hp which came out in 1957.    Looks like the cowling was repainted at some point so not exactly sure what you have.     30 or 35hp either way is a nice find, especially for free.   You should definitely see what it would take to get it running – it’s a great motor.   Can you post a picture of the ID plate – maybe someone can make out what it says?

Looks like your tag should say RDE 19 with maybe a letter after it.  Should have a white crown(can’t see it in pic) and hopefully a medallion in good shape above carb adjustment opening on front.  Good find!

I think I got my color schemes from one year to the next confused.   That motor should be a 1957 model.
